One of the cornerstones of MBT’s vision is a new business model shown below. It applies equally to equity enhancement, humanitarian or “not-for-profit” projects and eliminates profit as sole method for evaluating a business, replacing it with a triple bottom line model consisting of People – Planet – Prosperity as shown in the following diagram:
The above diagram represents a number of concepts:
• People, Planet, and Prosperity, the three apexes of the primary triangle, are to be treated equally when evaluating any situation, organization, or project.
• Respect, Sustainability, and Abundance, the three apexes of the secondary triangle, define how each of the primary attributes are to be treated or evaluated.
• On the People scale, an organization or project will be evaluated on the Respect it shows towards everyone involved, including staff, clients, suppliers, investors, and citizens.
• On the Planet scale, an organization or project will be evaluated based on how sustainable its practices are, or results will be.
• On the Prosperity scale, an organization or project will be evaluated based on how well it aligns with abundance thinking. Specifically, are the activities or results a win for everyone, including those both directly involved and indirectly involved? A potential example would be prosperity-sharing with employees and/or citizens affected by the activity.
• To explain the colours:
o Planet is blue, as seen from space
o Sustainability is green, symbolizing recycling, regeneration, healthy growth
o Prosperity is red, as suggested by Eastern culture
o People is purple, treating everyone as royalty
o Respect is yellow, cautioning everyone to avoid assumptions about others
o Abundance is orange, the colour of autumn, harvesting the fruits of Prosperity
o The rainbow theme also implicitly encourages treating all people with respect, keeping a wide-open mind, and honoring one of nature’s most beautiful creations.
